Design concept
- Fixed screw
- Nut driven through
timing belt and traveling motor
Advantages
- Screw can be fixed
in both ends and easily pre-tensioned
- Better overall
rigidness
- Higher critical
speed
- Higher linear speeds
- Better thermal
behavior (forced cooling is simplified)
- These advantages
become more pronounced in screws with a greater length / diameter ratio
(> 50:1).
Disadvantages
- Complicated feeding
of lubricant through the nut
- Increased moving
mass (motor travels with slide)
- Power chains needed
