FAQ

Re-lubrication
For re-lubrication, the same grease as in the factory lubrication should be used. Minimum requirement for compatibility of greases are:

  • Same or compatible thickener (on a soap basis)
  • Oil of same type and viscosity

Manual re-lubrication
Intervals depend on the type of wipers installed.

Wiper
Re-lubrication
Nut with felt wipers min. 2 x per year respectively every 1000 working hours
Nut with finger wipers min. 3 x per year respectively every 650 working hours
Nut with labyrinth-seals min. 4 x per year respectively every 500 working hours
Nut without wipers min. 6 x per year respectively every 300 working hours

Before applying new grease, all dirt should be wiped off. Then fresh grease should be applied as follows:

  • Build a thin and even layer of grease on the screw surface
  • Feed some grease through the lube hole into the nut (if applicable)

Grease quantities are based on the following:

  • Height of grease layer on the screw surface approx. 0.3 mm
  • Nut filled to about 15-50%

It is important to apply the grease as evenly as possible. This can be achieved by moving the nut through its full travel several times.Grease on all functional surfaces also works as corrosion inhibitor.

Specific weight of most greases is about 1 g/cm³, so the quantities given in grams equal about cubic centimeters.

Friction torque and operating temperatures after re-lubrication will be slightly higher than normal. This is why frequent re-lubrication with a samll amount of grease is better than infrequent lubrication with large amounts of grease.
