Oil Lubrication

FAQ

In case of oil lubrication, the standard configuration of the ballnut - similar to ISO standard nuts - is to be used, an oil entry hole and labyrinth seals on both ends of the nut. The oil feed rate should be at least 0.3 cm³ / hour or more, depending on the operation speed of the ballscrew. The oil used should be suitable for extreme pressure. In general, the same oil as for ball bearing lubrication can be used. As the operating temperature severely affects the accuracy in position, oil lubrication is preferred for high speed operation and for high precision applications.
Ballnuts used with oil lubrication should preferably be equipped with labyrinth seals on both ends, or - if the screw is used in vertical attitude - on the lower end to enable a flushing effect. However, use of plastic wipers on both ends is possible.

Upon delivery, every ballscrew is greased ready for use. If it is to be used with oil lubrication, please state upon order. The ballscrew is treated with KLUBER ISOFLEX DISPERSION, and there is no need to remove this grease. After some time of operation with the oil supply attached, the oil will wash out the grease, which will not harm the oil.

Requirements

  • Central oil supply
  • Ballscrew - Nut with lubrication hole
  • Ballscrew - Nut with wiper (labyrith seals, finger or felt wipers)
  • Mineral oil with tear-reducing additions (CLP, HLP, ...) and suitable viscosity

Remarks

  • The lubrication oil injection intervall schould be approx. 4 times an hour.
  • You should use an appropriate filter (mesh < 10 µm) and cooler (oil income temperature < 50°C) with oil circulation supply.
  • Oil supply for the spindle is only advisable on nuts without wipers (Requirement: low contamination).
  • You should use an oil bath or oil-splash lubrication only for low speed applications.
  • You could use drip oil lubrication or loss lubrication in all cases, but you have to think about the oil quantities needed first.
  • If you don't have to exceed the above mentioned quantities, you can use felt wipers.
